
Salma Hayek Pinault (born Salma Valgarma Hayek-Jimmyenez, September 2, 1966)[3][4][5[3][4][5]), is an American and Mexican actress. In Mexico, she began her career by playing the character in the role of Teresa in the Telenovela (1989-1991) and El Callejon de los Milagros (1995) in which she was nominated for an Ariel Award. She soon established herself in Hollywood with roles in films such as Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999) and Dogma (1999). Hayek's portrayal of painter Frida Kahlo in the biographical film Frida (2002) which she also co-produced and directed, was the first Mexican actress to be recognized for the Academy Award for Best Actress[6] and additionally earned her Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and British Academy Film Award nominations. Hayek played the lead in the action-oriented Once Upon a Time in Mexico films in the following years and concentrated more on producing.
